    Export (2003/2002)

Is it possible to export a Outlook 2003 pst file (a lot of mails with attachments) that can be imported in Outlook 2002 ?
    TIA

    Re: Export (2003/2002)

The default PST form changed with 2003 - accommodating larger sizes. If the 2003 PST was created new in 2003, then export to 2002 is almost certainly impossible. If the 2003 PST was previously used for any earlier version of Outlook, then export to 2002 is probably possible. I have had success with the second scenario - although I have not tried it after heavy 2003 use. HTH

You can create a new PST in Outlook 2003 choosing the Outlook 97-2002 format when you first create it. Then, with both files open, copy or move the mail from the 2003-format file to the old-format file. Close the old format file and take it to the old machine. Should work, but of course, I don't have 2003 so I can't guarantee it. <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15>

What <!profile=jscher2000>jscher2000<!/profile> proposes will work very well. There are certain aspects of a PST file - such as Rules and Custom Views - which will stay in the "old" PST. These may well be issues of little significance to you. HTH

    Re: Export (2003/2002)

Our recent thread on the color of grid lines in an Outlook 2003 view prompted me first to think that views should be very portable because they are based on XML, and then, after testing showed that not all of the XML was "obeyed," to think how sad it is that views are so difficult to move among PSTs. Why oh why...

Normally, the trick for preserving Views is simply to move entire folders from one PST to the other - or copy and then delete. This does not seem to be a safe option, however, when going from 2003 format to earlier versions. As for preserving Rules............?????
