    Format with Parenthesis (Access 2000)

How do I change the format of a number to show parenthesis when the number is a negative? Thank you.

In the Format property, enter a format with two sections separated by a semicolon. The first part is for positive numbers (and 0), and the second part for negative numbers. For example: <code>#,##0;(#,##0)</code>
If you use this, you will notice that positive and negative numbers do not align on the decimal point any more, because of the extra ) after negative numbers. You can solve this by reserving space as wide as ) after positive numbers: <code>#,##0_);(#,##0)</code>
The underscore _ reserves a space the width of the next character, in this case ).
You can also create a third section if you want to format zero values separately from positive values, and a fourth section for null (empty) values. For example:
    <code>#,##0_);(#,##0);"zero";"null"</code>
Literal texts within a format must be in quotes.
