    ASP w/Access Database

Ok, I'm not sure if this is possible, but I thought i'd ask anyways. I'm trying to create a total Database adminstration screen here so that they can add/delete tables and columns as needed in each our databases online. I'm just curious if there was a way that you could connect to the database and have it list all the tables available so that if they wanted to add a column to a specific table, they could use a pulldown menu dynamically filled or they will just have to know the table name ahead of time?

I haven't tried this, but I'll tell you how I would go about it.

You can use the ADOX (msadox.dll) object to read and manipulate the Tables and Columns collections. Each of the respective objects should have the necessary properties and collections you need to accomplish what you're after. As for accessing a list of tables, you can iterate through the Catalog's Tables collection to read a list of Table names.

I would recommend searching for an existing package to manage this for you. I would imagine that someone has already written this type of functionality into a pre-packaged application.

    Hope this helps

Perhaps you should build some kind of versioning/backup system, too. Sounds too easy to make a mistake! <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>
