    Cursor (Word 2000)

Let's hope Woody's is as good this time as it has been in the past!!!

How do I get my Word file to open at the last page instead of on page one?

I have two or three very large files and I hate all that scrolling!!!!

I know this isn't the answer to your question, but Ctrl-End will jump to the end of a document.

Another useful keyboard shortcut is Shift+F5, for "go back". It returns you to the last editing location within a document. Unfortunately, there is a bug in Word 2000 and up in the way this location is stored. See GoBack (Shift+F5) doesn't work in some newly-opened documents on the Word MVP site for background information and a workaround.

This might be more keystrokes, but... glance at the status bar to determine the last page number, press Ctrl+G to call up the Go To dialog, type the last page number and press Enter. (If you already used the Go To dialog to go to something else during the current session of Word, Ctrl+G might remember than rather than opening up to "Page"; not quite as convenient.)

Added: You can almost reduce this to an "autopilot" action. For most documents, entering 99 in the dialog will take you to the top of the last page. The exception would be those documents of 100 or more pages. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

I was right when I thought I would get all the answers - and quickly - from Woody's Lounge!!!!

Many thanks for all your help - I think I will use Ctrl-end. Why didn't I think of that!!!!
