    Altering Icons

I'm looking to change the colors of my desktop files from boring yellow. Some red, some blue, some... Is there any software out there I can use to achieve this? Thanks.

I take these are desktop shortcuts?
You should be able to right_mouse the shortcut > Properties > Change Icon and find something more exciting.

Thanks. I was looking for something a little more exciting, like editing individual shortcut icons eg a in change color or adding some text.

Thanks. Do you know if IconForge will enable me to edit Windows pre-packaged icons, such as the yellow file icon? Maybe I'll check it out first.

I don't think you will be able to extract icons 'packaged' within DLL's etc.
There are are few to download here at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.favicons.com/>favicons</A>.
Otherwise, a search of your system for *.ico may throw up a surprising number...
