    Access Query problem (Access 2000)

I have had an odd problem with access queries here and there and whenever I hit it, I have always been able to find a way around it. Now, I am unable to do so, so I guess I need to deal with it.

I am running a query in the builder, and it all works fine except for one field. I am parsing the field to get to an Invoice ID that is written into the field as part of a text message. I then want to filter the results based on the invoice number in the text field. So, I use Mid, Left, and trim, along with Clng to turn it back into a number. I am able to successfully return the invoice ID without a problem. However, as soon as I put the invoice ID I am interested in, into the where clause of the query builder, I get an error, "Invalid Procedure call" or I get "Datatype mismatch in criteria expression", even though I tried converting the return and the where clause to all manner of data types.

It SEEMS like a problem with access itself or the compiler... Just as an FYI, I have all patches, access 2000, win XP, and all my references are accurate.

Can you be (a lot) more specific? Either provide details about the tables and query involved, or attach astripped down version of the database.

Re: Access Query problem (Access 2000)

In trying to build a DB to post here, I solved the problem. In records that did not have an invoice number at the predefined location, it caused the errors I was experiencing. Sorry for the waste of time.

No need to apologize! It's happened to me more that once that I found the solution to a problem when trying to boil it down to a form I could show to others. So the time was not wasted. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
