Fax from PC (XP)

I know this can be done and is done all the time - never did it myself - need basic instructions - or at least a checklist of what I need to have or have access to inorder to send a FAX from my PC.

    Thanks

The following article from Windows XP magazine should help.

    Re: Fax from PC (XP)

Since you're running Windows XP, the software is already installed. Look under Start|All Programs|Accessories|Fax. If you are on a dial-up connection, you should be all set. If you are on broadband, you'll need to be sure your PC has a modem. Then you'll need to plug an ordinary phone cable into the modem before you start trying to send. (You needn't disconnect from your broadband connection while faxing.) HTH

Further to unkamunka's advice, you may find that the fax service is not installed on your machine. It is not installed by default on an XP setup. You may have to install it from your XP CD.

To all of you who replied to my post - THANK YOU. Turns out what I didn't tell you was that all of our computers are connected to our server - no phone lines involved.

Our Tech guy recommended NetFax or some other such service.

Perhaps you may mean that Fax Services are not always installed by default? The XP installs that I have dealt with have had Fax Services included by default. Yours clearly have not been so configured. There seems to be more than one "default" in operation!

Do the ??????????????'s mean you are now looking for a network solution?

Check this thread from the Software Forum for starters.

Yes, I guess there is more than one "default" installation. I have a desktop and a portable (Dell's) with XP preinstalled. Neither of them had the fax service installed when I received them. I upgraded another desktop with a purchased copy of XP and a default install did not include the fax service either. Microsoft consistency ???

You are NOW talking OEM default install. Because of the different court actions, each (OEM) can, will and do something different. I think you are going to find that not even two machine from the same OEM will be the same.

But if you were to use a MS retail CD, you will find that there are only two default set ups, one called Pro and the other Home. Once a user starts answering the questions differently there are going to be differences. Along this same line, the different and.or lack of hardware the differences will be there also.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
