    SP1 released (2003)

Just checked Office Update and seen that Microsoft have released Office 2003 Service Pack 1 & OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1. There was also an update for the Outlook Junk e-mail filter.

Anybody out there tried it yet? I think I will wait a while to see if there are any unexpected surprises with this update.

Installed today (Office 2003 Basic). Other than changing my e-mail client (from OE to Outlook - easy to switch back), no harm done. Word and Excel are working properly.

I also installed it yesterday and had no problems.

Changes to Office 2003 relate to what Microsoft calls "significant security enhancements, in addition to stability and performance improvements". Service Pack 1 can not be removed, to uninstall it you have to uninstall & reinstall Office (see MSKB 873125).

There is a new tab on the Outlook Junk e-mail filters which allows you to classify e-mail as junk based on the top level domain codes (2 letter codes at end of e-mail addresses) or the character set the e-mail is encoded with.

InfoPath 2003 has many performance and feature enhancements. These updates are contained in the main Office 2003 service pack.

The OneNote 2003 update contains new features and significant security enhancements, in addition to stability and performance improvements.

Project 2003, Project Server 2003, Visio 2003 and Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager all get their own service pack updates.

Checking the Microsoft newsgroups the only problems I have seen reported in the first day relate to some people not being able to install the update. Many of the error messages they get refer to missing .CAB files.

Just installed it a few hours ago, and so far - smooth sailing.

Got it on two machines and will be adding the other two in a day or so. All looks good on these machines.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Now that the first SP is out, I can finally try this product out. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> (Just need a spare computer...)
