    Sending compressed pictures (Outlook XP)

I normally use Word as my Outlook email editor, but when I send an attached picture, I right click on the image, select "Send to Mail Recipient" and take the option to compress the image. The email send to window that is started next is a plain text message. Is there a way to force these compressed images into my normal mail to window edited with Word in HTML format? (I prefer this method as I don't like to send (or receive) large attachments.

The right-click Send To uses a set of defaults that may or may not be configurable (I really have no idea).

In the short run, does copying the attachment and using Paste or Paste Special into a new Word message help?

I tried copy and paste and could not get it to work, but I did right click on the image in the New Message window, selected Save As, and saved to a folder. Now I can attach or insert the compressed image into the Word/HTML message window. An awkward work around but it works. <img src=/S/clapping.gif border=0 alt=clapping width=19 height=23>

How about an Outlook add-in that will compress the attachments for you?

I haven't used any of these, or Word Editor either for that matter.

Re: Sending compressed pictures (Outlook XP)

It looks like these are all Zip type compressions and not specifically designed for photo images. For the time being I think I will stick with the "Save As" solution I mentioned above. Maybe MS will get this improvement incorporated into the next version of Outlook. If anyone knows of a Microsoft suggestion box. please let me know. BTW, Word as the Outlook email editor seems to work great in Outlook 2003.

Re: Sending compressed pictures (Outlook XP)

    Try this:
Right-click on the file in Explorer, Send To Mail Recipient....
and a new (plain text) message opens with the (compressed) attachment.

    File > Save
    File > Close
and the message is saved and appears in your Inbox (Assuming you have set "Save unsent items in your Inbox" in your Options.)

Double-click the unsent message - does it not open up in Word?

It will still be in Plain Text format but it seems easy enough to change the formatting to your preferred choice - you could probably knock up a quick macro for your toolbar that would change all the settings and delete that annoying "Your files are attached and ready to send with this message." in one fell click.

Well, I think it is Word. The format is Plain text. I changed that to HTML. My Signature, which has my company logo, does not appear in the message. I can not find a way to insert my signature. (In early versions of Outlook I could but that changed with 2003.)

Does this earlier Outlook thread here help with the signatures issue?
