    Links arent't links (6)

This is not happening to me but I was at a friend's earlier and she was complaining that whenever she types a link into an email, it doesn't show up as a link, just as text. She didn't have her laptop with her so I couldn't check it but I'm wondering if there is any setting in OE that would cause that to happen or if it's just that she isn't hitting the Return key at the end of the address.

    Thanks.

Actually, this one is usually because people type an address, eg "www.wopr.com" which won't become a link; it has to be typed with the http:// on the front, ie "http://www.wopr.com". Do you remember if your friend was including this?

Also, at one time some email programs the address did NOT become a link until it was sent. Have this person sent a email to their self and see if in fact it comes through as a link.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Are you sure you mean a link to a web page ( http://www.joeshardware.com ) or do you mean an email address? ( abc@bignet.com )

Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
    Today it is called golf!

No I am referring to a url. Also, each of the links had http:// but not always www. which I beleive is correct, right?

I mostly use Outlook, so some of this may be different.
<UL><LI>If I receive a plain text format message with a URL, Outlook will make it a live link, assuming it recognizes it as a URL. The sender does not need to do anything and, in fact, cannot do anything about this, because it's just a plain text message.

<LI>If I receive an HTML format message with a URL, its status as a live link is based on the way it was set up by the sender. When composing HTML e-mail, Outlook automatically converts URLs to hyperlinks if it recognizes them. The sender can manually add, remove, or edit the hyperlink before sending.[/list]How does this compare with Outlook Express? (I assume no one in your scenario is using AOL. Its mail client works differently.)

You may have hit on something here because just a minute or so before I got the message saying that there was a response (yours), I told my friend to go into Tools/Options/Send and to be sure that HTML was checking for Mail Sending Format. I think that's the answer and will confirm it back to you as soon as I test it.

    Thanks
