    Instant Messenger (XP SP2)

I want to get rid of Instant Messaging and I have an article explaining how to do it. All I am supposed to have to do is change folder C:Program FilesMessenger to C:Program FilesMessengerx. I have found no way to do this even if I revert to old DOS commands to

Could it be that one of the programs in that folder is running? If you check the Task Manager, Processes tab, is MSMSGS.EXE listed? If so, End Process on it and see if that lets you rename the folder.

The message I got when renaming that folder (attached) was very interesting!!

    Re: Instant Messenger (XP SP2)

    jscher2000,

No I had already checked all that. I think I may have come up with a solution. I was able to go inside that Messenger folder and change msmsgs.exe to msmsgs.xxx. It asked if I was sure and I said yes and it accepted it. When I made the change I saw msmsgs.xxx appear. Now the strangest thing, neither msmsgs.exe or msmsgs.xxx are in that folder any longer. Also strange that it allowed me to change that executable file and not the folder. I wonder where msmsgs.xxx got to.

    Thanks.

Never mind. After a reboot the msmsgs.xxx showed back up.
