Join types in relationship window (all)

What would be the rational (benefits) from specifying a left/right outer join as the join type between 2 tables in the relationship window of a backend database? I'm reviewing at a database for a prospective client, and in some case the "one" side is the "always include" in the join type, yet in other sets of tables, the "many" table is the "always include" table in the join type. Perhaps does this just carry-over to queries when the 2 tables are selected, but have no real affect on the backend tables for under normal circumstances?

Specifying a left or right join in the Relationships window has NO effect on the relationship itself. Only the properties you set in the Edit Relationships window (enforce relational integrity, cascading updates and deletes) influence the relationship. By specifying a left or right join, you set the default join to be used in queries (it can be changed afterwards in the query design window.) If you know beforehand that you will (almost) always use an outer join between two tables in queries, you save a little time by specifying it in the relationships window (in the backend).

    Hans,

That's what I suspected, but I just wanted to be sure.

I think the primary benefit is that it serves as a visual reminder of the kind of relationship between the tables, and so I generally set the outer joins in the relationship window, even though I may NOT use that join in most of my queries. In the relationship window, the join can serve as a quick visual reminder of which table is subordinate to the other.
