Home Automation Panel

Friend of mine asked me to get her an external Caller ID box for her bedroom, as the display on her cordless phone is too dim. Picked the CID unit up at Radio Shack, but when I got over to her house, I found out she has no phone jack in the bedroom She's using a phone that is a "satellite" to a phone elsewhere that IS plugged into a wall jack.

Since I'm going to have to run a phone line to the bedroom, I'm thinking this would be a good time to install one of the home automation panels that would let me start rationalizing her phone and cable wiring, with the ability to add Ethernet cabling later. I've seen the Leviton and Pass & Seymour units at the big box home stores. Does anyone have an opinion, good or bad, about either of these, or any other make? She's almost a technophobe, so phone and cable is probably about all I'll need to do for now.

    Re: Home Automation Panel

I've always liked Leviton's products, but I have not used the panels of which you speak. I prefer to keep cabling separated to its own - phone here, ethernet there...but there is something to be said for running and terminating all the cables at once. I pretty much swore the next time I ran any kind of cables that I would pay someone just so that I could avoid dealing with fiberglass insulation again. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
