    Quick Launch (XP SP-1)

Why the heck do I have to re-select the Quick Launch bar to display, along with placement etc., on each log in? This pc is set up multi-user, and each user has to re-set the tool bars on each log in...

    Does <post#=392945>post 392945</post#> apply?

    Leif:

The current data in my entry as depicted is "C:WindowsSystem32wsaupdater.exe" (sans quotes).

Since the post said to change same to "C:WINDOWSsystem32userinit.exe", I'm concerned.

As reported, I did manage to remove SA, but is having me noted entry different than shown a problem? And where can I I find out what the entry(s) does mean?

Chuck, I think this is directly related to your previous thread regarding Search Assistant. I may be wrong, but I would be surprised if Ad-Aware completely cleaned up the problem. Have you tried John Gray's "System Restore" suggestion?

    John:

"Have you tried John Gray's "System Restore" suggestion?"

Not as yet, as I was / am in the middle of a system setup, and I was / am "less than anxious" to lose whatever installs etc. I may have. Some of my programs (like AI Roboform) are net-based installs, and controlled count registrations... I know, I don't like the method either, but... hence I shy away from re-installing...

In addition, this one snuck up on me, and I'm not sure how far back, nor am I certain I have a SysBackup to refer to...

    Chuck,
What are you saying? The entry you listed is the same as the post Leif pointed out. Did you read that thread? Read the last entry carefully for the change listed in the post is NOT the same as what you have. Also, look at Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! .

    Joe:

I *will* go back and re-read... I could have easily lost my place...

But what I did say was that in the part of the post I referred to:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Open Registry Editor and navigate to:

    HKEY LOCAL MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsNTCurrentVersionWin logon
In the right-pane, change the value of Userinit to "C:WINDOWSsystem32userinit.exe,"

(Type the above value exactly as given, including the comma - exclude the quotes)
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

my values at said location were NOT the same as either the entry referred to, before, or after, the change was applied...

Why don't you EXPORT that registry key first, for safety, then change the entry as described. You can always import the old one back. Just for the record, my entry in that location of the registry reads userinit.exe as well.

    Re: Quick Launch (XP SP-1)

    Joe / Al;

I'm sorry... I must've read it wrong the first time, or something... went back over it all, exporting as Al suggested... made the change, and all seems OK...

Got a couple of IE errors when I first came back online to WOPR when going "page back" and "page forward"... dunno what those are yet... but all else seems to work...

I'll scream out if I begin to "take on water".

    Thanks again,
    Chuck
