Importing Excel data (2003)

I have run the hotfix from MS to allow me to import Excel data into Access. It now allows me to do most things but not format the columns coming in. This leads to problems on staff number columns that have leading zeros - used to be able to import them as text - now they come in as numbers. Does anyone know if a further update from MS is likely on this? I can get around the problem but wondered if anyone knew if this was going to be fixed soon. I cannot find it on the MS website.

I don't think anyone of us has an inside connection with Microsoft, so your guess is as good as anyone else's.

No worries - you never know - sometimes one person sees something another doesn't, hears something another doesn't. I will post the problem with Microsoft.

The strategy we typically use in this case is to define a table in advance that specifies the field is text, and then import into an existing table. We usually either delete the table once we've finished, and then create a new tabledef either in code, or by copying an existing table. That approach assumes of course that the user creating the Excel workbook has a fixed format and hasn't inserted or deleted columns in it. Hope this helps.
