# Thread: Percentage of the difference (Excel 97)

1. ## Percentage of the difference (Excel 97)

Hi

I have had a mental block cell E7 contains 90 cell F7 contains 131 I need to caluculate I need to caluculate the percentage difference between the two.
I have to decide if F7 is more than 15% > E7

Many Thanks

Try:
=F7>(E7*1.15)
which will return either true or false.

3. ## Re: Percentage of the difference (Excel 97)

Hi Rory

Most Grateful

4. ## Re: Percentage of the difference (Excel 97)

Hi,
=(F7-E7)/F7 will work out to 31.3%, meaning that 131 is 31.3% greater than 90!

5. ## Re: Percentage of the difference (Excel 97)

Hi Rudi

Many thanks for that

6. ## Re: Percentage of the difference (Excel 97)

Hi Rudi,
=(F7-E7)/E7
which works out around 45%. Difference between the two is 41 which is a little less than half of 90.

7. ## Re: Percentage of the difference (Excel 97)

GeeWhiz, treading such a fine line. Rory i had my doubts, but the more I think of it the more I think you are correct!
Braddy, i do apologize for the incorrect data. Strangely, I fussed with this tiny problem, but I concent to Rory's answer!!!

8. ## Re: Percentage of the difference (Excel 97)

FWIW this can be stated as

=F7/E7-1

and the formula for Braddy's original question could be stated as

=F7/E7>1.15

For a bad typist like me, it saves time! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
