Re-release of 867801? (XP Home SP1)

    What's with the re-release of KB867801 (MS04-025) for IE?

"V2.0 (August 1, 2004) Bulletin updated to reflect availability of a new version of the update for Windows XP customers running Windows Update Version 5."

If I have not yet installed Win Update Ver. 5, does re-installing this update do any harm?
And will I need to install again after WUpdate5 is available?
MS is silent on these points.

(Edited by jscher2000 on 05-Aug-04 14:35. )
If I recall correctly, there was a bug in Windows Update that caused Windows XP (only XP, not other versions of Windows) not to get updated correctly. The fix should be transparent to anyone who didn't grab the patch on the first day. For anyone who did, perhaps they need to uninstall and reinstall it??

Added: Windows Update version 5 is the software on Microsoft's web servers, not on your computer. The ActiveX control that scans your computer is pushed down to you automatically.

Actually: When I use IE6's Windows Update pull down, I get directed to Windows Update version 4 (http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp). I have no idea who is using version 5, except that there were some postings in the Lounge many months ago about a brilliant new Windows Update that was in testing. Maybe it still needs some more testing.

The LangaList covered problems with Windows update which meant the same update is constantly being listed as not being installed.

This update in independent of the Windows Update software and should not make any difference.

Version 5 of Windows Update is due to go live when WIndows XP SP2 is released. InfiniSource have an article detailing the new features of Windows Update V5.
