Address Book Order (2003)

Is there any way to make the address book show the list in the "File As" order?

Re: Address Book Order (2003)

Hi, I have had this problem myself.

For new contacts they will take the default File As from the Options>Contact Options, but individual Contacts can be saved with specific File As propterties, so the Contacts list can hold both types at the sae time, and dont think their is a way to get them all in the same File As Order apart from with a macro.

make a copy of your contacts in another folder and try this macro:

Sub fileAsOrderChange()
Dim blnSurnameFirst As Boolean
blnSurnameFirst = MsgBox("File as Surname first?", vbYesNo) = vbYes
Dim c As Object
For Each c In Outlook.Session.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderContacts) .Items
If blnSurnameFirst Then
c.FileAs = IIf(c.LastName <> "", c.LastName & ", ", "") & c.FirstName
Else
c.FileAs = Trim(c.FirstName & " " & c.LastName)
End If
c.Save
Next c
End Sub
Thanks,

pmatz

Hi Hans,

You did it again! That post had the answer. Funny how one overlooks the obvious. I had never explored the "View or change existing directories .." in the Tools, Email Accounts dialog box. I added a Personal Directory and set it to sort by Last,First and that fixed everything.

Thanks again,
