    Browser Problem?????

Hi, I'm back with another strange problem. When I go to Yahoo to my email account, delete the emails and close out of this site to come back to my desktop. At that moment when I am at my desktop I try to open another site such as this one all I get is an hourglass telling me my PC is busy. I can't even open my documents. If I go to Netscape and go to Yahoo to my email account and come back to my desktop I don't have any problem using my PC. I ran a virus scan, found BackDoorAgent2 and removed it, but that did not correct the problem. I just seem to be having the problem only when I visit my Yahoo email site. Can someone help me with this problem? The only way I can get things back to normal when this problem occurs is to reboot. This problem seems to be happening only in IE 6.01. Please reply.

    Hi Pauliez

You don't say how you removed it. Maybe it's still causing problems. This thread might help.

    Re: Browser Problem?????

Hi Alan. When I ran AVG to scan my PC, AVG found the virus, put it in quarantine and then I went to the quarantine file and deleted the virus. This did not solve the problem. I still can't go to my Yahoo email without this problem happening. I did set up another Yahoo email account and could go to that one without having the problem. Do you understand the problem that I am having? Do I need to give more details. It seems like there is a virus that is sent to me every time I open my Yahoo email account, even if I delete everything without opening any of the emails. I have win 98 se. I read the thread you gave me and could not understand any of it.

Are you saying that you've run your AVG after going to Yahoo, & you've gotten the virus back after EACH visit? Since you don't have the problem with a new Yahoo account, it seems like the problem may be with the former profile.

    Hi Pauliez

From what you say further, I tend to agree with Phil. The fact that your new Yahoo account does work would suggest to me a problem with the old/ existing one. However, what I was suggesting is that perhaps your virus scanner did not completely clean up the malware - the thread I mentioned discussed a more thorough treatment for eradicating it. It may be that it somehow hijacked the URL to your Yahoo account (the one used by IE rather than Netscape) and that it's that which is "hanging" your browser.

I can try to further explain those cleaning instructions in the thread if you like.

Thanks Alan for your reply. I think I got it fixed some how. Some one suggested that I go to my profile of my Yahoo email account and make a minor change in any one item. Well this sounded crazy but I did it and the problem seems to be gone. It has been two days since I mad a small change in the profile and the problem has not returned. If it comes back I will contact you and ask for more details.

Glad it's "gone away". What I was pointing you to may not even be relevant then (hope it's not). Anyway, I hope it stays away for good. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    Re: Browser Problem?????

What puzzles me is where did it come from and how did it only infect my PC when I opened my Yahoo email account? I could go to any other email account that I have and not have the same problem. I was wondering if Yahoo it self was contaminated by a trojan, etc.?

    Hi Pauliez:
You never responded to my previous question. The Backdoor agent & the hourglass that you got may be two entirely different events. You may have gotten a virus once that you removed, but still had a corrupt profile.

    Re: Browser Problem?????

Possible the profile was corrupt, but that does not answer why it only happens when I open the email account through IE and not happen when I use Netscape. I know some one else who is having the same problem and he changed his profile and did not remove the problem. I have a feeling it has something to do with Yahoo free email accounts that Yahoo is aware of and are using this to get those who have a free account to get a paying account. In todays world money means everything.

How do you un-corupt a profile. My friend has gone back to his profile and changed just about everything he could find and that too has not removed the problem. Could you explain in more detail what you think can solve this problem.

    Re: Browser Problem?????

I was responding to your set of facts where you created a new profile that didn't have the problem. I don't have enough information regarding your friend's problem to hazard a guess as to the solution.

    Re: Browser Problem?????

What info do you need? He has the same problem I had but changing his profile, creating a new e-mail account did not cure his problem. It seems to only happen in IE when he closes out of his Yahoo email account without signing out of it. That is odd because the both of us have never had to sign out of our Yahoo e-mail accounts.

Did he have the same virus problem? Has he run a virus check & also run Spybot, AdAware, etc.? I would try deleting the Yahoo cookie, delete the history, TIF, & index.dat. Other than that, I don't know what to try, as I stay away from Yahoo.

The only thing I know that he did not delete was the history. I will tell him to do that and see what happens.
