    Controlling how Windows Explorer Opens (XP SP-1)

    I want to have a shortcut on my desktop that will open crogram files in Windows Explorer. I can get a shortcut to do that, but I can't get it to open explorer in two panes, with the folder list on the left, and the files in the highlighted folder on the right. No matter what I try, all I am able to get is the file list opening. I then have to manually go to VIEW - EXP;LORER BAR - FOLDER LIST, to make the folder list open in a new, left-hand pane. I've checked all the MS knowledgebase articles re: command line switches for explorer to no avail. I know there must be a way to do this, because I had such a shortcut that worked on this very machine unitil I had a bad crash and had to reformat the hard drive, discovering afterward that I didn't have a backup of the working shortcut.. Can someone clue me in?

    PS: I have a separate shortccut that gives me the view I want for My Documents. The startup switches that work for that are:
    Target:: %SystemRoot%explorer.exe , and
    Start In: %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%

    I get a two-paned view of C: using
    %SystemRoot%explorer.exe /e, C:

    I would expect that you would get what you want by putting
    "C:Program Files"
    instead of my
    C:
    in the above line?

    If you don't, it will probably be an Explorer option, either View or Tools => Folder Options...

    And if you want the folder list to be rooted at the Program Files directory, you can add the /root switch, like this:

    %SystemRoot%explorer.exe /e,/root,C:Program Files

    The other switch I usually throw in is the /n switch, which means open a new window even if there's already a window open to that folder.
