Woodyn Stake for Office Update 'Restart' Notice? (XP Home SP 1)

I'll settle for a clove of garlic.
Typical MS brainstems revised their Windows Update site, and of course, MADE THINGS WORSE.
Since I downloaded an update, every 15 minutes I get a reminder about restarting. PLEASE, I will restart my computer when I damn well feel like it.
I can't seem to nix it, not in Task Manager or any other way. How do I kill this thing?

They did NOT do it wrong. One should NEVER continue using a s system after a program install that MUST be restarted for the install to complete.

I think there is a difference between downloading and saving for later installation, on the one hand, and having allowed an update to be installed. In the latter case, your system may contain out-of-sync files, because Windows can't finish replacing files that are in-use until you restart the system. The reminder might simply be a poorly worded warning that working with out-of-sync files can cause problems, or, if it's a security update, a poorly worded warning that you are not yet protected by the patch because it hasn't really been installed all the way. Either way, I suspect that once you have installed an update, you really should restart Windows promptly. If you merely downloaded it, then Microsoft would be out of line suggesting that you need to restart.

I think you ran the "Install" not a downloaded copy. SO, there is NO way of over writing the install temp files until you restart the machine. If you do NOT restart and the temp files get scrambled, you will have problems and it will NOT be Microsoft's blame. You WILL have problems if you continue to use the machine and not restart it.

The ONLY why I can see to do what you is to FORMAT the hard drive and that will clear the message alone with everything else.

Even if you want to uninstall improperly installed patch or rollback your installation (restore to an earlier time), you MUST restart your computer anyway.

Remember: the only case when you can reject restarting after applying security patch is when you plan to apply another one immediately and restart the computer after installing all patches!

You forgot the hand grenade, the bulldozer, and dropping the hard drive off a steamliner. Speaking of steam, Hal did creative things with a steamroller on "Malcolm In the Middle."
