Highlighting Color

When I highlight a range of cells the color of the highlighted cells is mauve. How do do I change this default color? I'm sure this is bound to improve my productivity! Thanks.

Re: Highlighting Color

I think that color is controlled by the color scheme selected in the Control Panel, Display Applet on the Appearance Tab. In the "Item" combo box change the color for "Selected Item".

Re: Highlighting Color

I think you are talking about the cell fill colour.
Easiest thing is to get the colour picker on your toolbar:
1] Right click on toolbar
2] Customize | Commands | Format
3] Find the Fill button and drag onto a toolbar

Re: Highlighting Color

Leif, not that one. What I'm after is the the following. Suppose I want to highlight a range of cells to copy, say. At the mo the highlighted cells change color to black (or mauve on another computer I use). I want to control this color, say change the highlighted color to green. This is only a temporary color whilst the cells are highlighted for copying or cutting etc.

OK - I think you probably mean 'select' rather than 'highlight' ?
Have a look at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=xl&Number=36752&page=0&view =expanded&sb=5>this thread on conditional formatting - it may give you some ideas.

Re: Highlighting Color

Nope, it's not conditional formatting. I just want the selected cells to change color as I'm running the cursor across them whist defining the range for e.g. cutting or deleting.

Hi,
Legare's answer should be what you're looking for.
Hope that helps.

Ok, perhaps I have mis-understood what he said. How do I get to the control panel? Thanks.

Re: Highlighting Color

If you right-click on a blank area of your desktop (i.e. anywhere except on an icon) and choose Properties from the pop-up menu (or do Start-Settings-ControlPanel-Display), you can then select the Appearance tab, choose Selected Item from the Item dropdown list and change it to whatever colour you like. This will however affect your entire windows environment so I'd be careful as to what colour you choose!
Hope that helps.

Re: Highlighting Color

I tested LeGare's suggestion, and it did not change the display of selected cells on the spreadsheet, which are apparently set only to be the inverse of whatever the fill and border colors are. LeGare's suggestion -did- change selection in menus, drop-down's and about everything else, and I like the results ... but no effect on selected cells in Excel.

Hi John,
I'm surprised by that - I tested it on mine (O2k on Win2k) and it did change the colour of selected cells. A particularly fetching lime green too!

Hmm, XL97 on W95. Just re-read Legare's instructions, I -think- I did it right. Ah, well, ghost in the machine.
