    Removing stubborn characters? (Excel 2002)

I have copied several loooong lists from a webpage to Excel, for use as personal checklists, but when I copied them over, a column of checkboxes came with them, and I cannot get rid of them - they don't appear to be situated in any column. They appear in Col. A, but when I delete Col. A they remain, and are superimposed over the values in Col. B.
I tried copying the desired columns and pasting them as values only, but the checkboxes remained, and are as elusive as ever.
Any ideas as to what I'm up against?

    Thanks -

OK, so it is 2am while I'm trying to figure this out - and sure enough, as soon as I posted this I came up with a way around the problem. When I copied the columns over as values only, that left Column A essentially blank. So I just copied the desired columns (B - D) to a new worksheet and deleted the old one. But I feel like I cheated somehow, if you know what I mean. I'll be doing this copying more in the future - there is no rush as far as I am concerned, but if anyone has an idea how to get rid of these checkboxes, I'd love to hear it.

    Thanks again -

Could you post a small example of your sheet?

Can you get rid of the check boxes like this?
    - Select Edit | Go To... or press Ctrl+G.
    - Click Special...
    - Click the Objects radio button.
    - Click OK.
    - Press the Delete key.

That will work, as long as you are in Design Mode. When you initially copy data from web site & paste in workbook, then enter Go To/Special/Objects, you get "No objects found" msg (see attached pic). But when you display the "Exit Design Mode" toolbar and toggle to Design Mode, then you can select the superfluous objects using the Go To/Special/Objects command, as shown, and delete them. This may not be obvious if you do not customarily work with objects on worksheets. (I often have to resort to Paste Special/Values anyway after copying data, because the info copied from web site often has imbedded hyperlinks, Javascript, & other artifacts. If you copy as text rather than HTML, then each row of data is copied into a single column, which is less than useful in most cases.)

    Hi,

    Is this of any use?

    Sub RemoveShapes()
    '
    ' RemoveShapes Macro
' Removes all Shapes (Graphics) from the active worksheet
    '
    For Each sp In ActiveSheet.Shapes
    sp.Delete
    Next
    End Sub

I'm not sure whether checkboxes are shapes!

    Good Luck!
