    Lookout for outlook

This was mentioned in a New York Times Column this week. It is a quick search tool for Outlook and OE, and general files on your computer. It is a MS download, and Free. I downloaded it and it seems fine. Any comments?

    Re: Lookout for outlook

It is a small, fast and easy to use add-in that does what it says on the box. The version available from the MSN Sandbox is the last version made before Microsoft purchased Lookout and we will probably find its successor incorporated in the next version of Office.

Microsoft appear to be using the Victor Kiam approach - "I liked it so much, I bought the company"

    Re: Lookout for outlook

The version I found here indicates Outlook 2000+ only (not OE) and Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP. No mention of 98. Is there any other version available?

    thanks

In the article it said that it supports OE. I am actually using Outlook 2003, so it works here. I assume MS knows better than the New York Times about its products- right?

    Re: Lookout for outlook

If it was distributed as a COM Add-in for Outlook, which I suspect given its tight integration, it would only work in Outlook 2000 and higher. Outlook Express doesn't have a similar interface, at least as far as I know.

    Jefferson (and Zave)

What you say seems to fit the facts, as I can discern them. Personally, I don't have a problem with the speed/ efficiency of the builtin OE search facility. Mind you, I archive everything each year, and it all becomes .eml files with detatched attachments, so I can use other search capabilities for archived material.

    Re: Lookout for outlook

I read over the information on the "MSN Sandbox" site and this addon looks tempting but for one detail..... it requires ".NET Framework". From what I've read, this is a very large file and one which many have had numerous problems. Would someone like to dispel my apprehension? hehe

    Re: Lookout for outlook

I'm sure it's a large file!! However, I don't know what problems people have had. I think only .NET aware programs would be affected, not software written to talk directly to Windows....
