Re: Ad-aware update

Hi Phil,

I stand corrected. That is only for definitions. I suppose we'll have to rely on Joe for the version updates.

Sorry Charlotte.

Re: Ad-aware update

Why use about:blank for the home page? I created my own from some of my more useful bookmarks and point my browsers there. (But truth be told my real motivation was I was tired of giving out the links and could just e-mail the page to people...)

That's a good idea. I thought of it once...but was too lazy. It does bring up the browser faster this way, but I imagine that a bookmark file on a hard drive would load almost instantaneously.

Re: Ad-aware update

Speaking of which, version 1.02 has been posted on the various download sites. It addresses a problem with web updates of malware definitions.

Re: Ad-aware update

Phil,
You may not be able to autoupdate the program but I think you'll get notification of an update. I was notified of the availability of version 1.02 when I did an update check in the free version. I can't imagine that you'd get less in a paid version. Perhaps, if someone was willing to register in their support forums they could post a question. Seem to get decent response from what little I've seen.

Re: Ad-aware update

Yes, the automatically check for updates is enabled in the paid version (I have Pro), which I needed to purchase for my work machine anyhow. I seem to have received an email with a download address in my personal mailbox, so that may be all I need.

I'm registered in it twice, once for home and once for work. I still can't figure out how to search it effectively.

John

In <!post=this thread,391022>this thread<!/post> I discovered how to get the best of both worlds - open IE with about:blank, but still have Google associated with the Home button. Might be what you're after too?

Thanks, Joe. Your right. I did, & I updated. I'm stil not pleased that you can't bring up the manual with F1, but I rarely used it anyhow.

Re: Ad-aware update

New update as of August 12 - Version 1.03. My previous version (1.01) notified me that BOTH an updated reference file AND an updated version of the program itself was available.

Hey John,
Sorry, I didn't see this post when I started another thread about 1.03.

Re: Ad-aware update

Mine didn't notify me of anything like that. And it told me there were no new definitions available. I had to download and install 1.03 based on Joe's post. I'm sure I'll get a notification from them ... eventually, as before.

Re: Ad-aware update

That is odd. I was using the free version (1.01) and when I "checked for updates" it informed me that new definitions were available AND it told me that a new version of the program was available. Only the definitions were updated of course and I had to manually go to the Lavasoft site to download the new version.
