    Norton SystemWorks 2004

I am using Windows ME and recently installed Norton SystemWorks Professsional 2004. (I only installed AntiVirus and Utilities.) Since the installation my computer has been running extremely slow and has locked up several times when either starting up or shuting down. No error messages so far. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Are you getting any error messages or other clues? I don't necessarily know what the problem might be, but I would suggest uninstalling Norton and seeing if the problem goes away with it. Then attempt a re-install with the hope that whatever got munged the first time doesn't happen again.

If it persists, then you can troubleshoot further. If it goes away, of course, no additional effort needed. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

I had no error messages. I will give your suggestion a try sounds logical. Why didn't I think of that?
    Thanks for your reply.

I don't know where you stand on keeping your ME up to date with MS provided updates, but you might consider looking at Windows Update, just in case... I don't know if they've had any patches concerning slow startup or shutdown, but I just recently did a new installation of WinME and when I went to the update page, there were 21 updates listed as "critical."
