program mover

Several years ago I used a product called "MagicMover" which I think was from Acronis. This was packaged with another product and in an upgrade they stopped shipping this program. When I called their sales folks they told me they weren't offering it anymore but many people had asked for that program as it was quite popular (so they discontinued it?)

Does anyone know of an equivalent of this very handy tool? For those who don't know, it lets you move an installed program from one drive to another. It handles all the varied registry entries, etc. but won't work for all programs (some Microsoft programs/files can't be moved) but it did the job for almost all of the ones I wanted to move. I know I can just uninstall and reinstall but sometimes that's quite a pain once you have customized the application.

Thnx,
Deb

PC Magazine had a utility by Neil Rubenking called InCtrlX, where X depended upon your OS (I have InCtrl5). They used to be free, but now require a subscription to download their utilities.

AlohaBob is designed to move programs between computers, but might work for this, as well.

Thanks for the info. I did some checking and yes ths program will work to move programs on the same computer. The basic version won't work but the pro and enterprise version do this. This product is advertised for migrating an existing system to another computer with a cross-over cable (included in the box) to transfer the data. I sent them email about my question and the answer was buried on their site in some Q&A thing they have.

Edited by Bigaldoc to add URL code.[/i] See the Quick Guide or 1-Click TagPanel.

Deb,
I think the program you want is "Application Mover". It has some restrictions, though. Read the "Important Notes" for some help. It's only $15 for a single user.
It's at: Funduc.Com

Looks good I'll give it a shot (on a program I don't care about after a good backup, of course).

Thnx, Deb
