IE 6 Notify when a website is updated

If this is in the wrong forum - sorry and can someone let me know where it should be moved to.

I thought there was a setting somewhere where you could be notified if a web site was updated. Anyone know what that could be.

    Thanks

The only thing you control is when IE checks for a new page Tools | Internet options | General | Temporary Internet files settings. Notification would have to come from third party software.

Perhaps because it was a built-in feature of IE 4?

It sounds similar to the feature of storing web pages offline and synchronizing them with their source web site, but I've never used it, only read about it here from time to time.

There's a somewhat manual way of doing this, not sure if it's helpful to you or not.

Go to any website and add it to your favorites. Name it "Last Updated" or something similar.
Click on your favorites list, find the recently added favorite. Right-click it and select Properties.
Change the URL to the following:

    java script:alert(document.lastModified)

If you visit a page, then click on this favorite link, you should get a pop-up indicating when a page was last updated.
