XCopy with Files In Use (XP)

I use xcopy to copy Excel files from point A to point B. The issue I have is when someone has a file open and the batch file tries to copy it to point B. If I try to open the file from point B the file opens but gives me a notice that the user has a lock on the file. Is it possible to only copy those files not in use?

    Thanks,
    John

Are you saying that XCOPY stops copying all subsequent files when it encounters a file which is locked?

If so, you might want to look at Microsoft's ROBOCOPY (the XP010 version), or XXCOPY, both of which are more industrial strength, and continue after a file copy fails for an individual file. (There are others, such a Karen's replicator...)

(PS In fact I've been running ROBOCOPYs between two servers down a slow line for almost exactly 48 hours now -- don't ask...!)

    John,

The files actually get copied over. However If I were to open one of the files (copied while someone had it open) I receive a notification that the user has a lock on the file.

The notification is odd because the copied file was from another server.

I would treat with some suspicion the contents of a copied file on whose source file someone had a lock...
