    Auto_open in PowerPoint? (2000)

    Hello everybody!

I frequently use Excel but am a newbee on programming PowerPoint. In Excel there is an Auto_open()-routine where you may set parameters, etc. when opening a workbook. In Word there exists a routine calle Document_open(). Unfortunately I did not find something comparable in PowerPoint. I need to set an ActiveX-opject variable, when opening a special presentation automatically.
Are there any ideas about this??
    Any help will be appreciated!

    Many greetings, Porley

Unlike Word or Excel, PowerPoint has no automatic macros such as AutoExec, but since the 2000 version, it does have application-level events. See Make PPT respond to events.

    Hello Hans!

Thanks again for your help. I am really amazed to find that you have brilliant solutions in every forum. Your hint was very good and the thing works well. Unfortunately I have to use this in a template (*.pot). When I use it there, it does not work for the document I want to produce.
    Any idea about this?

    Thanks in advance, Porley

I'm sorry, I don;t know enough about PowerPoint, but I think you will need an add-in. Others may have better suggestions.

Hi, you can make an Auto_Open Macro in a module and save it as an add-in, as Hans said. This is only for a local machine and the addin will load every time you start powepoint, you could code in there to check for the .pot and then run code I guess.

    Re: Auto_open in PowerPoint? (2000)

    Hello everybody!

First of all: many thanks for your help and ideas. Over the weekend I have tested Hans' suggestion. It is possible to write an Auto_open() and an Auto_close() routine. If you save it as an add-in and activate it, the code in this routine will be started automatically - just like I've expected it from the presentation itself. There I could place the needed code and provide it for every presentation based on this specific template.
    So thanks again!!

    Many greetings, Porley
