Number Adding (Office 97)

OK, I have whole numbers that are broke up into individual cells for each digit. I want to be able to add these numbers. With them being broke up into single cells I have no idea how to add them up. I hope I am making sence. Any help or ideas will be greatly appriciated.

The idea is to assemble the numbers from the digits, add them, then break up the result into individual digits again. You could use VBA code, but I have attached a workbook using formulas. Column F is hidden; it contains the intermediate results.

There are a number of possibilities that could cause problems here (like are the numbers really numbers or are the text values), and I also am not 100% clear on what you want to do. Could you upload an example workbook that shows what you are trying to do?

Thanks Hans, that what I was looking for but I sure was hoping for something simpler. But I am not going to complain.

A simpler way to calculate could involve SUMPRODUCT.

Insert a new row1 and put in 10000 in A1, 1000 in B1, 100 in C1, 10 in D1 and 1 in E1
Then in row 2 and 3 A:E have what you currently have in row 1 &2
In F2 enter the formula:
=SUMPRODUCT($A$1:$E$1,A2:E2)

and this can be copied to the next row (or even more rows if you want to sum more than 2 rows together)

In the last row (3 in your spreadsheet and 4 with row 1 inserted, you can put in A4 the formula:
=MOD(TRUNC($F$4/A1),10)
and copy this from A4 to B4:E4

That works well. One note: you must have installed the Analysis Toolpak add-in (Tools | Add-Ins...), for the QUOTIENT function belongs to this add-in.
