    Corrupt template? (2002 / SP1)

    Sigh...

Last night a template I've been working on for a while apparently corrupted. I had been editing and when I went to create a document from it, I got "Word has encountered an error... ." What it said it repaired was TextBox1. There are no text boxes in the template (though there are tables). The repaired template didn't work either -- same result.

I exported all my VBA modules.
I created a new document based on normal and saved as a template.
Manually changed all the document setup stuff.
Copied styles and autotext from recovered template.
Copied the content (minus last para mark) from the recovered template.
    Imported all the VBA modules.

And it worked. I created two or three new documents with it last night. Then this morning, the first time I tried it, it bombed again. This happens a few moments after I double-click the template to run it. It's as if loading the template and/or creating the new document is causing the problem.

I can open the template and even run the forms from VBA, but I can't create a new document from it. It's at that point that styles get copied from the template to the new document, right? Maybe I've got a sour style? Or an achy autotext?

I checked the references, too. I originally set a reference to Outlook and to another (global) template. When I looked in the project today, it had a whole bunch of references to things that I didn't set (like cic 1.1 type library?) and *not* a reference to the other template. This template is *probably* not the problem as I have references to it from other templates that are working fine.

I guess I just need to start over and recreate the autotext and the styles from scratch (if there was a "whiney" smilie, it would be inserted here), but if anyone has any wisdom, I'll listen.

    Thanks,

    Re: Corrupt template? (2002 / SP1)

    OK...

Here's a follow up. I removed all the autotext and many of the styles from the template (didn't need 'em). I know I should have done them one at a time to see if I could perceive whence the problem arose. I could still if I have the time as I have a copy of the ill-behaved template.

All's well and the template is working again, so I'm hoping it was one of the now-gone styles or autotext. It does occur to me that at least one of the autotext entries was a text box... hmmmm.

I am still open to good advice. If anyone thinks I did NOT dodge a bullet, please pipe up.

    Thanks!
    Kim
