Import Outlook 5.x Messages (Outlook XP)

    Hi,

I'm building a computer for a friend. He used Outlook Express 5.x (not exactly sure which version but it was probably 5.5) and I would like to get his messages and addresses into Outlook XP. I'd even be happy if I could get them into Outlook Express 6 (he's on XP Pro so has OE6.x). The problem is that I cannot run the old Outlook (so I can't export anything) on account of having destroyed his old configuration and all I have is his mail folder with the idx & mbx files.

I can see that some people have asked similar question before but I am having difficulty honing down the search to anything that means something.

    Thanks

    James

    Hi John,

Not really ... the old data is in an earlier than XP/IE6 version and, even following those instructions, I can't seem to import it into either OE6 or Outlook XP.

    Thanks anyway!

    James

Perhaps you could advise the steps you have already tried? Can you import the messages into Outlook Express 6.n using the instructions in <!mskb=283205>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 283205<!/mskb> or recover or reinstall 5.5 using <!mskb=263837>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 263837<!/mskb>? Once you restore into Express, it has any easy export-to-Outlook feature.
