Split date into separate cells (2003)

How can I split a date field (which is formatted as mm/dd/yyyy) into 3 separate cells. For instance, a cell that has 1/1/2004 needs to be split into cells A, B, and C, where A=1; B=1; and C=2004.

I can do it if the dates were entered as text by using the Right or Left functions. But, that doesn't work if the dates were entered as actual dates.

    Should that last line be:

    =DAY(cell)

    =Year(cell)
    =Month(cell)
    =Day(cell)
