Screen sporadically repainted improperly (Office XP SP3)

I've noticed that sometimes Word XP doesn't repaint the screen properly (i.e. you'll get duplicate lines of text on the screen). If you scroll up and down, the problem is then resolved. Has anybody else across anything which explains this phenomenon?

    Thanks...

This symptom is typically caused by a problem with video drivers. I see it occasionally on many, but not all, of the PCs I use. I wouldn't risk upgrading video drivers just to fix this, but you may want to check if anything more recent is available.

I've seen it as well in the last 3 versions of Word and on at least half a dozen monitor/driver combinations. With all respect to StuartR's guruhood , I'm not sure drivers are the culprit. My personal theory is that this behavior is related to performing a lot of memory-intensive operations without attendant repaginations in Page Layout view. But then again, StuartR's forgotten more about Word than I'll probably ever learn, so maybe my theory is wrong.

Anyway, I find that toggling to Print Preview or Normal view shoos the problem away. If it happens a couple of times in a session, I take that as a sign that Word is getting cranky, and I exit & restart.

You may well be right. My comment on drivers was just a suspicion based on experience of other problems I have seen.

I occasionally see this behavior in Word, but I've also observed an infrequent similar effect in Word Perfect. I've just chalked it up to another UFT (unexplained freaky thing).

This happens to me all the time (well, sometimes) in documents that are table intensive. But I do think that both of you are right. With a heavy drain on GDI resources, it's more noticeable, but I do think that graphics cards & drivers play a role.
