Systray (WinXP Home)
My daughter just got a new puter with WinXP and in the systray is the WinUpdate icon. I would like to remove that icon from the systray as well as to disable the update at startup. Where do I look? TIA...

Re: Systray (WinXP Home)
Right-click the Windows update icon; the popup menu should contain something like Settings.
Alternatively, open the System control panel (in the Performance and Maintenance group, if your daughter uses Category View), and activate the Automatic Updates tab.
You can set here how updates are handled.
Note: you must be logged in as an administrator to be able to change the settings.
If changing the settings does not remove the Windows Update icon from the notrification area (systray), left click on it and tell it you don't want to be reminded about these updates, then click Close.
