Keyword stuffing - need to fix - how?

A friend of a friend asked me to check out his website to see why it is not showing up in any search engines. I thought perhaps he didn't have proper Meta Tags, but instead found that the creator of the website had stuffed the "keywords" Meta Tag with repeating words and phrases. Lots of them. Over and over. I am now guessing that the search engines figured this out and then blacklisted the website (or at least gave it a major penalty). Is there any fix for this? I mean I know how to fix the actual HTML... I'm just wondering if there is any way to "fix" this situation. The guy that owns the business is pretty upset, but not very technically inclined...

The exact formula and logic search engines use to determine which order sites should appear are undoubtedly highly guarded company secrets.

I doubt your friend's site has been blacklisted beyond one crawl period. (As far as I know, automated crawlers update content every few months depending on the search engine.)

I would recommend updating the tags to something more reasonable and/or accurate then resubmitting the site for indexing. You can, of course, spend quite a bit of money having 3rd parties do this for you or you can do it yourself for free (for example, http://www.google.com/addurl.html).

    Hope this helps

I've used WebPosition Gold in the past with decent results. It may be a bit over the top for a personal site but it's worth a look.
