Limitation of length of cell contents? (2000 (SP3))

    Hello everybody!

Today I realized a basic problem of Excel, and I wonder, if somebody knows a workaround: When I have more than 255 characters in a cell, Excel will only show '###########', but in the edit-bar (in german: "Bearbeitungsleiste") -- the field, where you may edit cell-contents as well -- the whole string can be seen.
Does somebody have an idea, how the content can be made visible in the cell?

    Any idea will be appreciated!

    Best regards, Porley

What is the format of the cell? [format cells - number(tab)]

If you have a cell formatted and it can not fit into the cell completely, it will display the #s.

Change the format to general and you should be fine or remove any "text" formatting in the format you have
(The "text" portion is the 4th section: the first is for positive numbers, 2nd for negative numbers, 3rd for zero, 4th for text)

For example acctng default (english version) is:
    _($* #,##0.00_);_($* (#,##0.00);_($* "-"??_);_(@_)

If you remove the "text formatting:
    _($* #,##0.00_);_($* (#,##0.00);_($* "-"??_)

It will display the text as much as possible in the cell.

    Steve

Thanks Steve. You were right, the cell was formatted as Text. I changed to General and now it works.
