Filed Shading on a template (Word 2000)

I created a template with many document property fields. On my computer, I have field shading turned to 'Always' (Tools/Options/Field Shading/Always). BUT, when someone else who doesn't have this (Tools/Options/Field Shading/Always) as their default does not see the fields as shaded. How can I FORCE these fields to appear as shaded to EVERYONE who opens the template? - Jody

Hi, as long as the person who opens the template has their Macro Security Settings to Medium or Low(not advised) then the following code in the Template will do the job:

Private Sub Document_Open()
ActiveDocument.ActiveWindow.View.FieldShading = wdFieldShadingAlways
End Sub

Right click the template and chooses 'Open'. Then go to the Visual Basic Editor (ALT F11) and on the project explorer on the left select 'This Document' from the template.

Paste in the code - it should work
Thanks,

Ok, I had high hopes, but it didn't seem to work <sigh>. I'm attaching the template, though in .doc format, so that I could attach it. You can save it as a .dot and try it. But I couldn't get it to work.

Ok, I just saved and opened the document that I attached in the previous message and it opened with shaded areas. Why is it when I do FILE/NEW/ tempalte name that it's opening without shaded areas....
