    Print Page Tab (Office 97)

I have a large manual that I am printing on Manual paper (5"/8"). I am not able to place any Tabs to divide the chapters so I am wondering if I can add a black block at the very edge of the page. If the pages are fanned it will show the different chapters (black block with white letters).

Have you tried using the text box control and drawing a text box on the page. You can type any text into it, change the colour to white and the background of the text box to black. Position the text box on the very edge of the page by dragging it to the edge. If the printer has trouble with printing the object outside of the margins, try fooling it by changing the paper size to a larger size and then printing. It might cost a couple of tries to position the text box correctly.
I must admit that I have not tried this practically, so I cannot guarentee a result!

If you have a different first page header for the start of each chapter, you could use a frame or textbox in that header.

Whether it actually prints to the edge of the paper depends on your printer more than Word.
