Can I copy comments between docs? (2002 SP3)

Is it possible to copy a Comment (including its "metadata": the user who created it, and when) from one Word file to another? If so, how is it done?

    Many thanks,
    Erik

If you copy and paste text containing a comment marker from one document to another, you will copy the comment too, but the time will be the time you pasted the text, not the time of the original comment. And I can't check it now, but suspect that the author will be the user who copies and pastes, not the original author. This also holds if you paste a link to the first document through Edit | Paste Special. I don't know of a way around it.

Thank you! Copying and pasting text did bring the comment along. I suspect you're right about the "author" being the copy-and-paster: I didn't have someone else's comment handy, but the timestamp in the destination doc was the time I pasted, not the time I first created the comment.

You can do a test by temporarily changing your username under Tools>Options...>User Information before pasting. Important to change it back, since that information can be left in a lot of places in the document. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
