drop down list misbehaves (Word 2002 SP1)

I have a combobox that is the first control on a form. I would like to use the dropdown method so it will display open, but it misbehaves.

It opens the list all right, but to the left and above the actual control. (See screen shot)

Since it's the first control, it automatically takes focus. Setting focus elsewhere or moving the control so it is not first fixes it, but what kind of fixes are those that?

I've not had a lot of luck with forms in the last week... Anybody have any wisdom on this?

    Thanks,

Does your form contain a multipage control (with tabbed pages)?

Are you using the built-in MSForms library controls or some additional controls from another package??

When forms misbehave in VBA-hosted projects, it often helps to export all form and code modules, delete them from the project, and then re-import them from wherever you exported them to. I suggest trying that first, just in case it's a corruption problem.

    Wow, that was fast!

Hans... no, it is a simple form with only a few controls.

Jefferson... I'm using the standard MSForms combobox -- nothing exotic. I exported the form as you suggested, saved and closed the project, then opened and imported. It's still working this way. In fact, I recall trying this before and it worked the same way on another PC. It seems to be a feature.

I've also noticed that if you have two combo boxes one right after the other on the form (and neither of them the first control), that the first one you enter will drop down as it should, but the second one won't.

Maybe it's something I just have to live with?

Although userforms have their quirks, I haven't had this kind of problem with them if they contained the standard controls, only if I used non-standard ActiveX controls. Can you reproduce the problem if you create a new form with a similar design?

    Well, no.

I created a simple form in a new template, populated it with a short and simple list and displayed it. The list appeared just as it should. I'll have to take some time adding elements to it and see what, if anything, causes it to display the same way.

    Thanks!
