    Remote Control (XP Home/Pro)

I have a laptop running XP Pro and a desktop running XP Home. The laptop has wireless access to my home office network, to which the desktop is also connected. I have some programs and files on the desktop that I would like to maintain there but would like to have the ability to run remotely from my laptop. Is there a feature I can use in XP to make this link or do I need 3rd party software?

Please define what you mean "ability to run remotely from my laptop"?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

I would like to open a window on my laptop in which is the desktop of my desktop PC. Then run a program on the desktop from my laptop, the same as if I were sitting at my desktop.

Look at the Remote Assistance feature of XP. On the XP home machine you'd have to invite the Pro machine for a support session. Check out Help & Support | Invite a friend to connect to your computer with Remote Assistance. If that is too clunky/hokey for your taste, check out something like RealVnc.

Remote desktop will only work with the Pro version. I believe that since you have Home on one, you will need a 3rd party type of software.

In addition to Joe's suggestion about RealVNC, which (I think) doesn't deal with file transfers, I've been using Remote Administrator (RADMIN) ever since WinXP was released and am VERY satisfied with it. It's not free but the price is reasonable.

Got RADMIN and love it - it works great. I had tried some others, including a very frustrating experience with Dameware and its very UNhelpful help file. This program does everytrhing I need. Thanks again for your help.
