    Phantom O2K3 Issues (2003)

    Hello,

I wouldn't normally think to waste anyones time with something like this and just pass it off as either software failure or user error but my user base seems to think this is a legitmate issue.

Has anyone seen any issue where upon simply selecting "reply" in Outlook, the opened message just closes (no reply window or opened e-mail)? Further, numerous people are claiming that Outlook is just closing with no error message or anything.

Of course I cannot reproduce any of this and I know what you are thinking. Just thought I would give it a shot.

    Thanks -

Can you identify a pattern relating to the configuration: editor (Outlook native or Word), format (text, HTML, RTF), and add-ins (both old-fashioned and COM Add-ins)? It's hard to diagnose with no clues. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

One other thought: would the reply function be using a customized form? Forms and the forms cache sometimes become corrupted.

    Thanks for the reply.

No pattern thus far....I have been unable to recreate but the reporting user is using RTF , Word is not active as the editor.

    Add-ins....here goes.......
    QuickViewPlus
    SAVCORP90 (We love Symantec)
Interwoven Extensions (This is the new name for iManage, we are running version 8, still in beta)
    Delegate Access
    Deleted Item Recovery
    Exchange Extensions Commands
    Exchange Extensions Property Pages

We also have a program called InterAction (it is pure evil) that is an addition to Outlook.
As well as MetaData Assistant version 1.6.

No customized form for the reply function, and I already tried the basic troubleshooting maintenance of dumping formcache.dat, extend.dat, outcmd.dat and running a cleanviews.

Systems are running XP Pro SP1
    P4 2.8 GHZ
    512 MB of PC3200

I was reading through the details of what is fixed in SP1 for O2K3. There will probably need to be some extensive testing with Office SP1 in our environment, but it outlined a few issues which could be related to what people are experiencing.

We are currently in the middle of a pilot for upgrading to Windows XP, Office 2003, Outlook 2003 and are experiencing the same issue: users will see Outlook close all of a sudden, especially when they are in another program and click the task bar entry for Outlook or use ALT + TAB.

Do any of your configurations have anything in common with that mentioned by <!profile=Squ1d>Squ1d<!/profile>?

It appears that the common link is Interwoven - although there is no mention of Outlook 2003 in a search on their website. Have you asked your contact there whether there any any "issues"?

    Re: Phantom O2K3 Issues (2003)

I will do so through their support site - I also tend to post issues at a legal IT website - all the participants use interwoven products.

    Thanks!
