heading style 3 numbering to pick up from h2 (WordXP SP3)

    Hiya

I have a word document with heading styles automatic numbering. see screen dump
for heading style 2 it works & picks up & does the next sequential letter & number.
however for heading style 3 - we have applied the same settings however its still set to the letter A.

let me know if you need anything else

Sometimes it helps to turn off outline numbering, then turn it on again.

    Hi Diana:
Take a look at [post#76976]. It's possible that your heading numbering is not based on the same List Template. You need to put the cursor in the Heading 1 style, open the Bullets & Numbering dialog box, & change ALL your levels without closing the dialog box. I would save it with a name so that you can easily check that you always have the same List Template in use. See picture.

Re: heading style 3 numbering to pick up from h2 (

Hey Phil - thanks for that.

I actually managed to work out what was going on in the document.
With Heading 1 - the font size for automatic numbering was changed to 1 point. (therefore you couldnt see the auto-number to work out the pattern)
Heading 2 was done manually. (style B1.)
Therefore when it came to Heading 3 (style A1.1) it was actually working correctly ie starting with 'A', due to how heading 1 & heading 2 was formatted.
I went through the styles & cleaned it up & the auto-numbering now flows throughout the whole document correctly.

many thanks for you help again
    diana :-)
