    Home Network Printers

I got my home network machines talking to each other. I can transfer files between them.

But why can't I see the printers between the two, if I CAN see sharewd folders?

    Printers aren't folders.
Have you set up sharing of the printers?

Long shot, but are these 'standard' printers? I've had trouble sharing both serial printers & 'all-in-one' fax/printers. Standard printers haven't been a problem seeing them. Using them has sometimes been problematic, but I've always been able to see them once I shared them.

    Leif:

I went back, uninstalled the printer, re-installed it, (hp psc 1200), and it worked. Then once I set up a firewall (Sygate) on the "base station", the connection is lost... once it is uninstalled again, the connection comes back. Obviously the firewall is the culprit.

But now I've had trouble with Sygate and ZoneAlarm allowing a printer. But I'm setting it up as MS instructed on the "base" station, and the folders are sharing fine.

Running with *no* firewall is not a very viable option... so *now* what?

Are you saying that the printers work properly without a firewall? I've experimented with ZA and and am currently using Sygate and have had absolutely no problems with either as far as printing. From some of your previous posts, I think you are running different OS's on the computers. Have you installed the printer drivers on all of the machines?

    Re: Home Network Printers

    Guys:

    Must've been some drive conflict(s)...

I uninstalled all drivers and firewalls, re-installed the firewalls, re-installed the printers, and all is well again.

Thanks to all for the assist.

    Regards,
    Chuck
