# Thread: Counting Values

1. ## Counting Values

I have a table of survey responses. All responses from the surveys are contained in a single column in a table. I now need to produce a report that shows how many responses there are for each possible answer of each question. In other words, I need to know how many "Yes" and how many "No" responses there are for question 1, how many "Yes" and how many "No" responses there are for question 2 and so on. The number of possible responses can very from question to question.

Is there any easy way to do this with a query? If not, any other suggestions?

So lets get this clear first, you have a question with predetermined answers like:

Please indicate yes or no answers to the following:

Question 1)---- Who will win the election?
a)-Tony Blair will win the election? Yes/No

c)-Margaret Thatcher will win the election? Yes/No

Almost, but not quite. It would go something like this:

1. Was this a positive experience? Yes | No
2. Did you like this experience? Yes | No
3. On a scale of 1 to 3 rate your experience 1 | 2 | 3

These responses, whether Yes, No, 1, 2, or 3 are stored in a single table column called, of all things, "Responses."

The report needs to then tally how many Yes's to question 1 there were, how many No's to question there were, same for question 2, how many 1's there were for question 3, how many 2's for question 3, how many 3's for question 3 there were.

Thanks for any help you can give.
