    Norton Firewall - any good?

Norton Internet Security came pre-installed on my PC. Has anyone tried the Norton Firewall that is part of the package? On a recent extended posting there was much talk of ZA (my old favorite), and passing reference to N I S. Is Norton Firewall effective compared to ZA and Sygate?
    Any thoughts?

Norton Personal Firewall got good reviews last time I looked. It was particularly favored for ease of use. Because it is not oriented toward power users, however, it is not as fine-tuneable as Sygate and Outpost. ZoneAlarm probably falls in between.

Thanks for the reply. Since it was already included with my system, and PC Mag gave it a good review, AND you hadn't heard anything particularly bad about it, I turned it on and the world hasn't ended....yet <g>.
It's too bad about the problems and negative publicity since ZA was bought out. It used to be a sterling company.

Just a passing "heads up" regarding firewalls. IF you upgrade to SP2, it defaults to turning on it's own internal firewall. Stick with Norton and disable the SP2 firewall. <img src=/S/yep.gif border=0 alt=yep width=15 height=15>

Often, the OEM version of softwarew shipped with a computer is not as robust/full featured as the retail version.

You want to check whether this is the case with Norton Firewall.
