    Extra Spaces (Office 97)

Here's another corny question. I have saved a spreadsheet from the internet. The data has an extra space at the beginning of data in each cell. Is there a way to delete the space without have to go through each cell.
    Thanks.

    Re: Extra Spaces (Office 97)

Say that your data are in column A, starting in A1. In B1, enter this formula:
    =MID(A1,2,999)
where 999 is a number larget than the maximum length of the entries in column A. Fill down as far as needed. If you want to keep the formulas, you can hide column A now. Otherwise, select the cells in column B, copy them to the clipboard, and select Edit | Paste Special, specify the Values option and click OK. You can now delete column A.

Method [1] will also delete multiple spaces within the strings. I don't know if that is OK.

Method [2] will delete ALL spaces in the selected cells, including those within the strings. Note: Alt+032 is just a space, you might as well press the space bar.
