XP User Accounts saring OE Profile (OE 6 (SP2))

Hello, I use Windows XP (PRO). I've just duplicated a User Account. This copied across all my program settings but not Email. Is there any way I can get more than one XP user account to share the same Outlook Express User Profile? In other words I'd like to be able to check my email from either user account. If I can't do this then I need to copy across my email settings from one User Account to the other. Basically my plan is to have a limited User Account for day to day activities and have an admin account to use should I need to make system changes. I'll be the only person using both accounts so I'd like all the program settings including email to be the same for both.. Is this possible?

    Thanks,

    Chris (Hunt)

Set up a new account in the new profile using the same username and address. Go to Tools>Accounts>Add>Mail and have at it.

    Thanks Doc,

So basically, I can import my mail from one account into another but the two will actually be independent copies of each other? Is it possible to access the same message store, address book etc from more than one user account at the same time (ie have it available and up to date regardless of the account I log on with)?

    Hi Chris,

I'm not really sure about this, but came up with this information (I did a little editing for clarification and readability) here. You may want to check ot this forum or ask this question in the outlooe Express forum here in the Lounge, where it will get a more directed response from a better informed audience. That said, here's what I found.

Can Outlook and Outlook Express be used on two different pc's to access (read and pull in) the same emails on one POP3 account.

Sure. Just make sure that one (or both) have the advanced setting "leave message on server" set. If you do that for both, you'll have to manage deleting the files on server somehow (there are options). If you do it only on one, then make sure that one always reads email *first*, as the second will remove the messages from the POP3 server.
This later scenario is what I use when travelling, where I'm reading mail on another machine than I do at home. When I return home, I have one download that gets all the mail again.

Email programs download the messages to their own local storage. You need to make sure that both are configured to leave messages on the server for some period of time.

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for the link to Express Backup (You might want to edit your link to go to the homepage. It's a dead-end to the specific page). If I ever need a backup utility specifically for OE, I now know where to find one. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

I liked the idea of setting up OE to leave the message on the server because it doesn't require any additional programs. But using Express Backup is a more complete answer if you have important data to safeguard.

    Thanks for the tip, Doc.

After thinking about it I've decided to use my backup program Express Assist to keep the accounts synchronised. But the information you provided is good to know.

    Best wishes,

    Chris
